ABOUT THE PHOENIX WBC

The Cheshire Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club was formed in 2014 as a merger between Cheshire Phoenix and Celtic Warriors Wheelchair Basketball Club.

The club has players of all ages with and without disabilities from all around the North Wales, Staffordshire and Cheshire Areas and are keen to get more people playing the sport – so if you fancy a go just get in touch.

There are sports chairs you can borrow when you initially join and all you need to be able to do is get yourself up and down the court – the coaches will teach you the rest.

Phoenix WBC Chairperson Anna Jackson said: “ We are so excited to be part of the Phoenix family now – Wheelchair Basketball is a truly inclusive sport and this merger is brilliant for the future of the sport in the area“

Did you know?

Wheelchair Basketball is the biggest Paralympic team sport in the world with its roots going back to the late 1940s.

The sport is regarded to also be the most inclusive, allowing those with or without a disability, male and female, juniors or adults to all play on the same court, in the same team at the same time.

The sport embraces a wide range of disabilities including paraplegia, spina bifida, lower limb amputations, brittle bones, cerebral palsy and a whole mix of sports injuries.

People without physical disabilities are eligible to play in Divisions 1, 2, 3, 4, Junior League and Women’s League so there is definitely an opportunity for everyone to play.

So if you have a lower limb impairment – from an acquired injury that prevents you playing running sports like football, hockey, rugby etc. through to being a permanent wheelchair user and everything in-between, then Wheelchair Basketball is for you!

Our club welcomes everyone so come and have a go, we guarantee you’ll enjoy it!

Anna Jackson

We are lucky enough to have Anna Jackson as Head Coach of our Club – she was a member of the GB Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team and a Paralympian. She is working hard to develop the players and coaches at the Club.

Get involved

Training is at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Saturday nights 5pm-7pm. Training is open to anyone who wants to come and have a go so if you are interested just get in touch.
