Phoenix and Essar team up again for Hoops 4 Health programme

Cheshire Phoenix are delighted to announce the continued partnership with Essar to deliver the hoops 4 health program in Ellesmere Port.

The Cheshire Phoenix, since its move to the Ellesmere Port Sports Village has expanded their health education programme at local schools aiming to reach 2939 pupils in over 50 schools across Cheshire and Warrington.

With the financial support provided by Essar, this has ensured again that every Year 5 and 6 pupil in Ellesmere Port primary schools will be offered the opportunity to join in the Hoops 4 Health initiative. The healthy living education programme involves professional players from the Phoenix using basketball as an activity to convey a range of positive health messages to primary school children. This includes the importance of keeping physically active and promoting all aspects of a healthy lifestyle.

Ian Cotton, Head of Communications, Essar said: “With the Cheshire Phoenix now based in Ellesmere Port itself, it is even more appropriate they are able to go out to local primary schools with their excellent Hoops 4 Health programme. It’s vital children understand the importance of keeping physically active and eating healthily and we’re delighted to be able to support such an effective and fun way of delivering positive health messages.

James Brice, General Manager added: “It is fantastic that Essar continue to support our program which has such a positive impact on so many young people. The children enjoy meeting the players and we also make sure that they have tickets to come and watch the Phoenix at our brand new arena at Ellesmere Port Sports Village and join the ever growing band of Phoenix supporters.”
