Riders claim comeback win against familiar rivals
Leicester Riders 82 (24, 35, 56) (King 16, Hampton 13, Sullivan 10, Clark 10)
Cheshire Phoenix 75 (25, 44, 54) (DiNunno 19, Allen-Jordan 16, Eaves 12)
Leicester Riders consolidated top spot on Saturday night but had to work hard to eventually outpace Cheshire Phoenix 82-75 as they collected a third win against their opponents in a week.
With both teams, familiar with each other in the wake of having played twice last weekend in the BBL Trophy Semi-Finals, there was little between either in the opening period.
But, perhaps spurred on by their first win of the calendar year 24 hours earlier on BBC Sport against Leeds Force, it was Phoenix who made the running in the second quarter as they stunned the hosts by heading to the locker rooms with a 44-35 lead.
Mike DiNunno was doing a great job in the backcourt for Cheshire, but after making some adjustments, Riders turned the defensive screw and managed to claw back the deficit and manoeuvre their way into the lead heading into the last ten minutes.
While Cheshire tried to recover, the home side held firm and rode their way to victory as Pierre Hampton starred with a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards after shooting six of seven from the floor. Meanwhile Taylor King top scored with 16 points.
