Cheshire Phoenix 80 – 73 DBL Sheffield Sharks

Cheshire Phoenix overcame a 12-point deficit and defeated the Sheffield Sharks after an incredible fourth quarter performance.
The team played self-less basketball, showed great heart and determination during the dying minutes of the game as they mounted a famous comeback.
The Sharks managed to grab four offensive rebounds to the Phoenix’s one in the first quarter. They also forced the home side into some silly turnovers and splashed home four three-pointers. Despite this, Ben Thomas’ team only found themselves down 15 – 18 at the end of the first 10 minutes. Mackley McKnight was excellent for the Sharks in the opening act of the game.
The Nix grabbed some offensive rebounds of their own at the start of the second quarter, however the lead swelled up to eight points for the Sharks with 2:48 left until the interval. Christopher Alexander hit the Nix with an avalanche of 10 points on a very efficient 60% shooting. Phoenix trailed 33-40 at the half.
C.J Gettys scored 10 points on five for six shooting in the third period of the game. However, the visitors moved the ball well and created good looks for themselves as they kept the Nix at bay for the majority of the quarter. Dii’Jon Allen-Jordan converted an and-one play with just 3.2 seconds to go in the third and gave the Nix a glimmer of hope as they headed into the final 10 minutes of the game down 54-60.
The Nix took the lead at the 8:34 mark of the fourth quarter after a 8-0 run was capped off by Daniel Norl, as he connected on a heavily contested three-pointer. The Sharks regained the lead shortly after but the two sides battled until the very end for the win. Momcilo Latinovic hit a crucial shot from beyond the arc that put the Phoenix up 73-69 with just 2:11 left. Latinovic iced the game with another huge three pointer during the last minute of the game. The Nix emerged victorious 80-73 after a brilliant fourth quarter comeback, in which every player contributed well.
Key Team Stat: 15 forced turnovers. The Nix players pick-pocketed their opponents and forced the visitors into 15 turnovers during the course of the game. The Nix profited immensely as they scored 17 points off of the Sharks turnovers.
The Cheshire Phoenix will look for their third straight win when they welcome the Newcastle Eagles at the Cheshire Oaks Arena on March 24th.
