Cheshire Phoenix vs Bristol Flyers – PREVIEW
by Vlad Ionasc
Cheshire Phoenix (13-13) will host the Bristol Flyers (10-14) at the Cheshire Oaks Arena on Sunday 31st of March, in a pivotal encounter for the play-off race.
The Nix could secure their fourth win in five games, while a defeat for Bristol would mean that that their play-off aspirations would take a huge hit. The two sides have split the season series so far, with one win a piece.
The Flyers have not been in good form recently and have had a poor season overall. They currently sit in the 10th seed and have been blown out in their last two games. The Nix will be looking to take advantage of their opponents’ poor form and secure their 14th win of the season. However, the visitors will come into the building with the dynamic duo of Jalan McCloud and Fred Thomas, they are currently averaging a combined 31.5 points-per game. Thomas is also a good rebounder, he averages 6.3 per game, while McCloud leads his team in assists, with 3.7 per game.
Phoenix will come into the game in high spirits following their previous win on the road. They controlled the majority of the game against the Leicester Riders, shot the ball at a high clip, defended hard and rebounded well. Despite all the positives, the team will need to to take better care of the ball against Bristol, the home side have turned the ball over a staggering 38 times in their last two games.
C.J Gettys was the stand-out player against the Riders. The Phoenix big man had a very nice stat-line of 19 points, 16 rebounds and five assists. Momcilo Latinovic also contributed with four made three-pointers while Daniel Norl led both teams in assists, with six.
The Nix will need to continue to defend at a high level on Sunday and keep concentration levels at 100% for the entire length of the game in order to secure an important win in their bid for a play-off spot.
