Cheshire Phoenix vs Leicester Riders – PREVIEW

by Vlad Ionasc

Cheshire Phoenix (13-14) will look to get their second victory of the season over the Leicester Riders (18-8) at the Cheshire Oaks Arena on the 7th April.

The Phoenix faced the Riders not too long ago and managed to defeat Sunday’s visitors. In their last encounter, The Nix built up an impressive 22 point lead but a lapse in concentration and Phoenix’s inability to score for over three minutes nearly allowed Leicester to wipe it out after they went on 17-2 run at the end of the third quarter.

The Nix limited the Riders to just 34% FG when they last clashed. Most importantly, Leicester’s danger-men, Holder and Washington combined for just 15 points on 4-17 FG. The hosts shot poorly in their last game against the Bristol Flyers but just two days before they were sinking everything against the Riders. The Nix shot 53% from the field and 45% from the three-point line last time out against Leicester. The team will need to recover from their bad display against the Flyers and produce another great shooting night on Sunday if they want to secure their 14th win of the season.

C.J Gettys and Momcilo Latinovic combined for 37 points on 15-25 FG in their last meeting against Leicester. The pair will need to be on top form again if they want to bounce back from their off-game against the Flyers.

An important factor which could play a part in Sunday’s game is rest. The Riders will play against the tough London City Royals less than 48 hours before they have to travel to the Cheshire Oaks Arena, while the Nix will be fully refreshed, having not played a game since last Sunday.
