Cheshire Phoenix vs London Lions – PREVIEW
by Vlad Ionasc
Cheshire Phoenix (14-16) will start their London road-trip at the Copper Box Arena where they’ll meet the London Lions (25-5) on the 22nd of April.
The Nix bounced back from a three-game losing streak against the Giants and will want to build upon that win when they visit the capital. The Lions currently sit on a four game winning streak and have the best record in the league, a win over the Nix would guarantee the hosts the number one seed.
As expected from one of the best teams in the BBL, the Lions will have plenty of firepower. Justin Robinson and Ladarius Tabb are combing for 36.1 points-per-game this season. Tabb has also been a problem on the boards. He is averaging 10 rebounds per game. Robinson is the second best playmaker that the Lions have on their roster, he’s averaging 4.9 assists per game while Jordan Spencer is their main distributor, he averages 6 dimes per game. The Lions also have a very good marksman on their team, Brandon Peel is shooting 38% from beyond the arc this season.
Daniel Norl had a great game last time out against the Giants, the guard scored 28 points as he connected on six three-point attempts. The Nix will need Norl to replicate his performance on Monday. C.J Gettys matched up well against one of the most dominant big men in the league,Willie Clayton, but he is doubtful to play on Monday after he picked up an injury during the game against Manchester.
Phoenix started brilliantly against the Giants and never looked back, in order for the team to secure their 15th win of the season, they must start Monday’s game with the same intensity & poise. The Nix have proved that they can win tough away games this season, the most recent example being their win away at Leicester. Ben Thomas’ side will need to shoot at a high clip against the Lions, just like they’ve done in their last two matches. They must also continue to move the ball well, sharing the responsibility on the offensive end. On defence, the team will need to work together to slow down the scoring duo of Robinson & Tabb.
BRING THE NOISE! GO PHOENIX!
