Surrey Scorchers recorded their first home win of the season after holding off Cheshire Phoenix in a 67-61win.

Will Neighbour top scored with 19 points as the Scorchers improved to a 2-7 record in the BBL Championship.

The home side scored the opening seven points and opened up a 17-8 advantage before Cheshire responded with a 7-2 run to cut the gap.

Surrey were held scoreless over the first five minutes of the second and the lead would change hands several times before Marcel Mosley tied the game at 30 with a 3-pointer.

The third quarter was close throughout but a three from Will Maynard gave the hosts a five-point cushion to take into the final period.

The lead was stretched to eight points before a 7-0 reply from Cheshire, though they were then held to just two points over the next five minutes in a crucial passage of the game.

Surrey held on for their first home win as they secured a six-point triumph. Earl Brown led Phoenix with 20 points and 12 rebounds with his side back in action tomorrow as they host Worcester Wolves.
