Cheshire Phoenix Appoint New Head Coach

Cheshire Phoenix are pleased to announce the appointment of Colin O’Reilly as their new Head Coach for the 2016/17 Season.

Many ‘Nix fans will recognise Colin as he previously played for the club from 2009 until 2012 and then also played a further season at BBL rivals, Plymouth Raiders.

On his return to the Phoenix, Colin said “It’s very exciting to have been hired to coach the Phoenix. Having spent 3 years at the club previously I have a great appreciation for how dedicated the fans are to the club and how important the club is to the Cheshire Community. My job now is to ensure I put together the back room staff which will help build a culture of continuous improvement throughout the squad. I am looking forward to the challenge and can’t wait for the first preseason session where as a group we can start creating an identity which embodies the Cheshire community spirit.”

Whilst away from the BBL, Colin returned to his home town of Cork and joined UCC Demons in the Irish Basketball Superleague as their player-coach. During this time, Colin and the UCC Demons won numerous trophies whilst Colin himself won Player and Coach of the Year awards. Colin is also currently the player-coach of the Irish Men’s National Basketball Team.

Cheshire Phoenix General Manager James Brice said on the appointment that “It’s great news that Colin has agreed to become our new Head Coach. After meeting with Colin, it was clear to us that he was the man for the job. We have secured a young, ambitious coach who knows the club and the league well and will install a winning culture right through our Junior and Community program and BBL team.”

Recruitment for the 2016/17 season is underway and news regarding players and fixtures will be announced soon.
