Jordan Williams and David Aliu lead the way as the Nix register a 90-82 success on Saturday night.
Jordan Williams and David Aliu combined for 47 points as Cheshire Phoenix got back to winning ways with a 90-82 success at Bristol Flyers on Saturday night.
Williams hit 24 points and club captain Aliu 23 as head coach John Lavery’s men banished the disappointment of last weekend’s home defeat to Manchester Giants with a solid team victory.
The Nix opened up the contest at the WISE Basketball Arena in fine fettle and a clinical shooting display saw them 27-17 up at the end of the first quarter. Andreas Kapoulas’ Bristol side battled in the second quarter but Cheshire shaded it by a point to hold a 49-38 lead at the interval.
But Bristol came out in determined fashion in the third quarter, with American Cardell McFarland and UK guard Greg Streete both finding their range, with the two finishing the contest with 23 and 20 points respectively.
Heading into the final quarter and the Flyers had shaved the Nix’s lead to just a single point at 66-65 but it was the visitors who finished the stronger of the two. Martyn Gayle, deputising for the injured Sean McGonagill, put in an impressive display to hit 15 points with a highly-efficient shooting display, as Lavery’s men outscored the home side 24-17 in the final 10 minutes to seal a well-deserved success on the road and take them to 2-1 for the BBL season.
Cheshire Phoenix scorers: Jordan Williams 24pts; David Aliu 23pts; Martyn Gayle 15pts; Akeem Ellis 12pts; Donatas Visockis 12pts; Sedale Hanson-Young 4pts.
