09 APR 2017: PHOENIX 83-89 FLYERS

Flyers do the double over Phoenix.

BBL Championship
Cheshire Phoenix 83 (17,34,54) (Brown 23, Adekoya/DiNunno 20)
Bristol Flyers 89 (24,45,70) (Ali 19, Vigor 18, Smith 15)

Bristol Flyers completed a weekend double over Cheshire Phoenix whilst moving one win clear in the race for the Play-Offs with an 83-89 victory.

Andreas Kapoulas’ side improve to 14 wins from 30, crucially ahead of Surrey Scorchers with three games left each including a potentially decisive showdown.

Hameed Ali led a balanced attack with 19 points, while Mike Vigor impressed for his 18 and Leslee Smith tallied a 15-point, 15-rebound double-double.

Bristol made a bright start to lead by 11 during the first quarter and that would end up being the difference between the two teams at the half.

The hosts closed to within seven on a three from Mike DiNunno in the third before an 11-2 close saw the Flyers open up a commanding 16-point advantage.

Cheshire went on a late 11-0 burst to cut the gap to 79-84, but the visitors were able to ice the game from the foul line for another important victory.

The Flyers are also half a game behind South-West rivals Plymouth Raiders, while Cheshire Phoenix now have a 9-21 record.
