Following Leicester’s 93-58 win against the Rocks, the Nix have mathematically secured their place in the next round of the BBL Cup.
Despite our ‘luck’ with injuries at the start of the season, the team has done incredibly well to recover, regroup and reinvent themselves as one of the best teams in the BBL.
The Nix took a while to get going, as they lost their first four games, but the gutsy win away at Leicester proved to be the catalyst to a remarkable 5-0 run in which Cheshire accumulated victories against Leicester, Glasgow, Sheffield and Manchester. Three of the five consecutive triumphs were all-the-more impressive as they were on the road!
Phoenix’s opponents in the Quarter-Final are still unknown, as the fight for a top-two finish in the South division is still being contested by the City Royals, Flyers and Wolves. The Nix can only finish in the 3rd/4th position so they won’t have the advantage of hosting the Quarter-Final.
Coach Thomas was delighted to see his side advance to the latter stages of the Cup: ‘’It’s great to receive the confirmation that we have qualified for the quarter final of the BBL Cup. We had a really testing start to the competition for many different reasons but the team have really produced when we needed to.’’
‘’Our job isn’t done yet and we are now going to focus on our next game against Glasgow to ensure that we keep momentum on our side before heading into the quarter final.’’
