GB guard Ben Mockford re-joins the Nix

Cheshire Phoenix are thrilled to announce that GB guard Ben Mockford has re-joined the club ahead of the start of the 2021/22 BBL Championship.

In his first stint at the club (2019/20 season) Mockford averaged 14.4 points and 2.1 assists per game. The 6’2 guard scored 15 points or more on 15 occasions during the 19/20 season.

Mockford established himself as an elite three-point shooter during his three years at St Francis (NCAA D1) where he averaged 11.6 points-per-game on 38.2% accuracy from deep. The 32-year-old represented Great Britain at EuroBasket 2017 and helped GB qualify for the upcoming EuroBasket 2022. Mockford has accumulated 43 caps for GB so far.

Shortly after inking the deal, Mockford declared: “I had really good talks with Ben Thomas and James Brice and we felt like me coming back was the right move! I’ve been watching all of the games so far and I really believe that we have a talented team so now it’s just about gelling, figuring things out but I’m really optimistic about the season and I think that the sky is the limit for us!”

Phoenix head coach Ben Thomas expressed his delight at having Mockford back in Cheshire: “I’m really happy to have Ben back with us! He had a very successful season here and since then he’s established himself as a starter for Team GB so we know that he’s going to add quality and experience to our team.

“Ben is one of the best shooters in the league, it’s an elite skill that he has and that means that he will keep defenses honest all the time and really spread the floor for us.”

Following Mockford’s arrival we can confirm that we have parted ways with Jules Dang-Akodo. We would like to wish Jules all the best in the next chapter of his career.
