Cheshire Phoenix Primary School Invitational Tournament in Uganda runs for 2nd Successive year

The Cheshire Phoenix Primary School invitational tournament in Ibanda, Uganda, took place once again this year, with 7 schools successfully participating this year.

The competitions were close and competitive during the group stages, semi finals and finals. The overall winner were Bubaare Primary School, who were new to the tournament this year, they worked hard and were very competitive.  The runners up were Nyakatukura Primary School after an overtime game.

The guest of honour was the Municipal Education supervisor escorted by Mr. Kosam, school head teachers and sports teachers of participating and non participating schools. The guest of honour pledged to provide any form of assistance necessary to promote the game in the area.  He will help to clear areas to help build more basketball courts in schools where possible.  The plan now is to train more teachers and more schools to continue to grow the game of basketball in Uganda.

Coach Douglas Tusumii:

“I had never seen such kind of competitiveness in Ibanda sports. Other schools are calling me seeking for a hand to start up basketball.”

The whole of the Cheshire Phoenix would like to congratulate Douglas on all of hard work and commitment to the project in Uganda, and well done to all the children and staff that took part in the tournament.
