Cheshire Phoenix have signed Josh Wilcher as their first signing for the 2016-17 season in Colin O’Reilly’s new look Phoenix team.
The 5’10 Australian-born point guard is a dual UK/AUS passport holder and previously played for Plymouth Raiders in the BBL where he averaged 14 points and 7 assists per game during his time there.
Head Coach Colin O’Reilly is pleased with his first signing and stated “While building a young team, it was important that we also brought in experience to help the transition and Josh fits the bill for this. He is a very unselfish player which will help set the tone for us as far as moving the ball effectively offensively and communicating as a unit defensively.”
Josh is currently in Australia playing for Townsville Heat in the Australian State League this summer, averaging 16 points per game but is looking forward to coming back to the UK and joining up with the new ‘Nix Head Coach and team.
Josh added, “I am really excited by the opportunity to join Cheshire, having played against them for a couple of seasons now, I have seen how passionate and supportive their fans are and I can’t wait to play for them. Speaking to Coach, he really seems like someone with a great vision for the club going forward and I’m very excited to be a part of it, I can’t wait to get started.”
